New Enhancements and Features in Spellings for Me Version 2

Since the launch of Spellings for Me in 2019, we have taken all teacher and school feedback into account to improve and enhance the program. The most significant change is now here with the release of Version 2, which addresses key concerns and introduces several powerful new features.

New Features in Spellings for Me Version 2

Placement Test

One of the biggest enhancements is the Placement Test, now built into the program. This test ensures that no student wastes time on words that are too easy for them. The first time a student logs into Spellings for Me, they are instructed to take their Placement Test, which determines their starting level. This makes the learning experience more efficient and tailored to individual needs.

Phonics and Rules Section

A significant addition is our Phonics and Rules Section, which provides structured phonics-based learning for students who need a more foundational approach. This section is particularly useful for younger learners and those requiring extra support in phonics and spelling rules.

EAL Support

Another new section is the EAL (English as an Additional Language) Section, designed to help non-native English speakers improve their spelling and language comprehension through targeted tests and activities.

Morphology and Etymology Section

One of the most well-received features in our trial schools has been the Morphology and Etymology Section. Extensive work has gone into developing this section, which helps students break down words into their root components and understand their origins. This structured approach supports deeper learning and spelling mastery.

Yellow Spelling Test Structure

In Version 2 of Spellings for Me, the Yellow Spelling Tests have been significantly refined to provide greater structure and insight. The test now consists of 200 levels, with levels 1 to 77 having specific titles to provide better clarity on progression. Here are some examples:

• Level 1: Two-letter words
• Level 4: CVC words with letter I
• Level 10: Final sounds like "nk" and "nd"
• Level 35: Vowel teams with the "a_e" pattern
• Level 40: Vowel teams with the "i_e" pattern

This structured approach allows teachers to gain valuable insights into specific areas where students may be struggling, making it easier to target interventions and track progress. Additionally, while students continue to receive individualized word lists, their weekly lists now often include two to three words from a common theme (e.g., CVCs, words with 'U', etc.). This blend of personalization and structured learning enhances student engagement and retention.

Individualised Learning Approach

Spellings for Me continues to offer a completely individualised approach to spelling. Each student receives 12 words per week tailored to their level. Now, with the inclusion of morphology and etymology, students not only learn words but also develop a deeper understanding of language structure, improving long-term retention and application.

By combining the latest research in spelling instruction with an adaptive digital platform, Spellings for Me Version 2 provides schools, teachers, and educators with the most effective approach to teaching spelling.

Enhanced Reporting for Teachers and Students

A major improvement in Version 2 is the enhanced reporting system. Teachers now have access to detailed reports that provide clear insights into student progress.

Additionally, students can now view their own progress directly from their student profile. This improvement offers greater transparency and motivation, as students can track their achievements over time. For parents, this feature provides much-needed clarity, ensuring they can easily monitor their child's spelling development.

With these enhancements, Spellings for Me Version 2 delivers an even more effective and research-backed approach to spelling instruction. We are excited for schools to experience these improvements and look forward to continued feedback from educators and students alike.
