📊 Why Are My Students Back at Level 1 in Version 2?
Some teachers have noticed that their students appear to be “starting over” in Version 2 of Spellings for Me. This isn’t a reset — it’s a completely new, restructured system.
Here’s what you need to know:
🔄 What’s Changed from Version 1 to Version 2?
Version 1 (2019–2025):
40 broad levels
Words ordered from easiest to hardest
Teachers manually skipped students to appropriate levels
High reliance on repeated testing
Version 2 (2025 onwards):
200 finely-tuned levels
Levels 1–79 are built around key phonetic concepts and spelling rules
Each level now provides clear feedback and structure
Students are placed automatically — no manual level skipping needed
🧪 What About the Old Levels?
Levels from Version 1 do not match or carry over to Version 2 — they are based on different structures and logic. Even if a child was on Level 32 in Version 1, they may now start around Level 15, 25, or 40 in Version 2, depending on their Placement Test results.
🚀 Placement Test = Accurate Starting Point
When students first log into Version 2, they are asked to complete a Placement Test. This:
Replaces the need for teacher-driven level skipping
Quickly identifies the child’s durability level
Places them exactly where they need to start — not too easy, not too hard
This process is automated and designed to reduce unnecessary testing and prevent over- or under-leveling.
