Can I reset a student’s test and what happens?
This is a common question, and it’s important to understand how test data works within Spellings for Me.
Can a test be reset?
❌ No — once a test has been completed, it cannot be reset.
This applies to all test types within the platform.
Can I reset a student’s account?
✅ Yes — but with caution.
You can reset a student’s account from your Teacher Dashboard. However:
⚠️ Warning:
Resetting a student account will delete all data associated with that student, including:
Test history
Learning Words
Progress and performance data
This action cannot be undone.
What should I do instead?
In most cases, you do not need to reset a test. There are better options depending on the situation:
1. If incorrect or unsuitable words were generated
If a student made errors and you feel the resulting Learning Words are not appropriate:
➡️ Go to your Teacher Dashboard
➡️ Click Actions beside the student
➡️ Hover over Administration
➡️ Select “Clear Learning Words for selected user”
✅ This will:
Remove the current Learning Words
Allow the student to generate a more suitable set of words
❌ This will NOT:
Reopen or reset the original test
2. If a student performed poorly on a Learning Words test
Sometimes students get words wrong that they actually know.
Instead of resetting:
➡️ Unlock the next Learning Words (orange) test immediately
➡️ Allow the student to retake the test right away
✅ This allows them to:
Correct their mistakes
Move words out of the Learning Words section if spelled correctly
Key Takeaway
Tests cannot be reset once completed
Avoid resetting student accounts unless absolutely necessary
Use Clear Learning Words or unlock the next test as better alternatives
