Understanding the Placement Test in Spellings for Me

πŸ“ Placement Test – Getting Started on the Right Level

The Placement Test is the first and most important step when students begin using Spellings for Me. It ensures that each child starts at a spelling level suited to their current phonetic knowledge and spelling ability β€” not based on age or class level.

🧠 What Does the Placement Test Do?

Assesses phonetic awareness and spelling skills.

Automatically assigns each child a starting point in the program.

Ensures students begin at a level that is challenging but achievable.

This starting point is shown by a glowing blue-green circle in their Learning Grid (see image below).

πŸ“ How the Test Works

Students log into their own profile on Version 2.

They are guided to start with the Initial Test.

After completing the Initial Test, they are immediately prompted to take the Follow-Up Test.

Once both parts are completed, the system analyses their performance and sets their starting level automatically.

🎯 Why Is This Important?

➑️ This means no manual skipping is needed by teachers β€” the program adapts to each student automatically.
➑️ It also avoids the risk of starting students at levels that are too easy or too hard.
➑️ The correct level is shown in their grid by a blue-green glow around a tile:

πŸ›‘ Important: Let Students Work Independently

To ensure accurate placement:

Students must complete the test on their own, without any help.

If they receive assistance, they may be placed at a level that’s too difficult and will not benefit fully from the program.

βœ… What Happens Next?

After the Placement Test:

Students begin working from the tile that is highlighted with the blue-green circle.

Their progress will be tracked automatically as they move through the program.

Teachers can view and manage this progress in real time through their dashboard.
